Whitewash in Sochi

These past Olympics in Sochi, despite being a symbol of international unity and peaceful cooperation between nations, had a strong odor of oppression and corruption. To start with, these were the most expensive games ever, by a ridiculous degree, and the list of contractors reads similarly to the Presidents' birthday party invitation list. So that's a good start.

The systematic repression of the LGBT commnity should be reprehensible and should be more than enough to keep the games from ever landing in a place with that mentalitity, like Russia. But apparently money is a poor translator.

But all that aside, it appears that the world media, especially those whose networks paid through the nose for the TV rights to the games, ignored these humanitarian concerns, not to meniton the poorly constructed amenities, are whitewashing away all of these concerns.

While I love to see my nations flag waving in the background of a medal ceremony, these Olympic games feel tainted. Fingers crossed for South Korea. There's nothing at all to be concerned about in Korea is there?

In any case, as always, I hope you enjoy this piece, politics and all.
